About Wendy Lu

Wendy Lu is a children's book author and award-winning disability journalist based in New York City.

She is a deputy editor at The New York Times, where she champions inclusive news coverage, and her reporting on disability, culture, and identity has appeared in leading publications. In the summer of 2026, she’ll debut her first middle-grade novel, Casting April, a heartwarming story about friendship, identity, and finding your place in the spotlight.

Wendy grew up in Boston and eastern North Carolina, spending summers in Shanghai, and she has lived with a tracheostomy tube since birth. These roots shape her belief that stories have the power to broaden whom we see and how we understand each other.
